On June 3, 1943, shortly before noon, a group of two hundred (200) EAM-ELAS fighters were confronted by an Italian phalanx, which was conducting clearance operations in the mountainous areas. By nightfall, the high-spirited Greeks had defeated the Italians, decimating them. Although the consequences of the battle were heavy for the civilian population, finally the Italian forces were repulsed and left the area for good after a new battle, which took place later in the area of Kaloskopi. Their attempt to annihilate the rebel forces failed miserably, costing them heavy losses.
